On the occasion of Team Pons' last outing before officially retiring after 31 years of activity, the team has decided to pay homage to its history with a special initiative. In fact, the bikes of Aron Canet and Sergio Garcia brought a dedicated livery to the track for the sole race on Sunday at the Valencia circuit. The idea behind the color scheme was to bring to the track an overview of all the historical colors that have characterized the activity of this group in its three decades of activity.

To do this, we chose to define a sort of checkered graphics, in which each sector reported the color and main sponsor of that period. This expedient allowed us to provide at a glance an idea of ​​the extent and importance of Team Pons' work in the history of the world championship. As we can see the idea was also extended to the pilot's suit. For reasons of relationships with the various brands, the iconographic references were limited to color combinations and did not include logos and titles.

The homage from Aron Canet also extended to the surface of the helmet which for the occasion hosted the red-white-blue combination and the historic little owl of the former driver and team manager.

Movistar 97-99

Movistar is a commercial brand of the Telefonica group, founded directly by the Spanish government and currently the fourth largest group in the world by number of customers in the field of fixed and mobile telecommunications. Movistar specifically is the brand operating in Spain and Latin American countries. Since its launch in 1995 it has always supported the sporting world to propose its commercial communication. In 1996 it sponsored a tennis tournament and in 1997 it entered the world of motorsport. In the period 1997-1999 it supported Team Pons with the beautiful "stellar" livery with which Alberto Puig, Carlos Checa and John Kocinsky raced, among others. After the experience with the Spanish team Movistar he became the main sponsor of the official Suzuki team with which Kenny Roberts Junior became World Champion. Since that year - 2000 - the writing Movistar has been added to the name Telefonica. We can then later recall the sponsorship of Team Gresini with Sete Gibernau and Marco Melandri and that of the official Yamaha Team with Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales. In this latest and most recent experience Movistar proposed itself with the new logo and the typical green "M" with a "liquid" shape. Since 2011, Movistar has also been the official sponsor of a World Tour cycling team.

West 2001-2002

The livery West, although used for a short time, immediately became memorable in the world championship scene. First of all, it was the color brought to the track with great success by McLaren in those years and therefore already enjoyed great recognisability. Furthermore, at the time the team could count on 2 absolute talents such as Alex Barros and Loris Capirossi who on more than one occasion gave their opponents a hard time for the top positions. Halfway through the season Barros was allowed to use the brand new 211-stroke RC4V, with which he managed to score more points than even leader Valentino Rossi. The black/white scheme was reminiscent of that of the previous year when, in the absence of investors, the team invented the elusive sponsorship of a brand to occupy the fairings but for which no agreement was in force.

Camel 2003-2005

The transition to the following season also marked a decisive change of image. Pons remained linked to the world of tobacco but it was Camel to take over as main sponsor. The Hondas therefore took on the typical totally yellow livery with blue areas for the logo of the American brand. A few years later Camel would then make the transition to the Official Yamaha Team with Valentino Rossi.

Yellow Pages 2014-2015

Staying on the yellow side we find the sponsorship of Paginas Amarillas, or the Spanish yellow pages. It was one of the last attempts to relaunch the brand which then officially ceased its activities shortly thereafter, in 2021. We can also find this livery on a 4-wheel vehicle: this is the World Series car by Renault brought to track in 2015 by 8 different drivers. Pons Racing was a reality in the preparatory championship for landing in Formula 1 for several seasons, from 2004 (the year in which it won the championship with Heikki Kovalainen) to 2015.

Flexbox 2019-2022

flexbox it is a brand that is very present in motorsport as it has long supported teams in both 2 and 4 wheels. In fact, we find it on the Alpha Tauri as it has long been on the official Ducatis. In the meantime he was also the main sponsor of Team Pons in Moto2 from 2019 to 2022.

HP 2014, 2017, 2018

The brand relationship Hewlett Packard with Team Pons he has been constant over the years even if the overall involvement has been a bit fluctuating. In fact, in the 3 years indicated, HP was the main sponsor of the team, with the bikes characterized by the white-blue or blue-orange combo in 2018 in cohabitation with Stihl. In other years it remained present but in a reduced version, perhaps on smaller portions of the fairings (as for example in the last year).

It is true that there have been some further color variations over the course of these over 30 years of involvement in the world of motor racing, but the work of the graphic designers has nevertheless made it possible to enclose a nice "encyclopedic" overview of the team on a single motorbike.
